3rd Annual Mardi Gras Tybee
March 4th and 5th, 2011
On March 4th and 5th, 2011 Tybeefest will present the 3rd Annual Mardi Gras Tybee celebration on Tybee Island, Georgia. Tybee is a natural setting for the Mardi Gras event due to its unique character and fun-loving residents.
The event will encompass the traditions of Mardi Gras, an event with origins dating back to the ancient Romans and carried on today in cities such as Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans, Louisiana. Mardi Gras is held on the last day before the start of Lent.
Tybee will be dressed in an array of purple, gold, & green flags depicting the Tybee Mardi Gras celebration. Mardi Gras Tybee will include a Masquerade Ball, the Mardi Gras Tybee Parade, the Mardi Gras Tybee Street Party featuring free live entertainment & more.
“This will no doubt grow into another successful event equal to the Tybee Island Pirate Fest and provide what people have come to expect from Tybeefest—a fun high quality event. With Tybee only 20 minutes from Savannah and with more people planning trips within the range of a tank of gas, Mardi Gras Tybee will be a good boost for the Tybee Island economy.
Tybeefest is an all volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to providing entertainment, events, and festivals on Tybee Island for the enjoyment of Tybee residents and visitors alike.
In 2008 Tybee Island was named the “Best One Tank Trip by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, “Best Beach Retreat” by Atlanta Creative Loafing and “Best Beach” by Georgia Magazine.
