Saturday night at the Post Theater!
These two ladies can sing the blues!
The Tybee Post Theater launches this Saturday a new concert series featuring powerful female vocalists who follow in the footsteps of all-American vocal legends such as Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Etta James and Janis Joplin, among others.
In this inaugural show, Savannah legend Huxsie Scott will share the stage with the talented Danielle Hicks. Two contrasting styles full of emotion, passion and excitement will feature music of the heart accompanied by versatile piano player, Jared Hall, on piano.
Huxsie Scott is regarded as one of the greatest jazz/blues artists ever to live and perform in the Savannah Coastal Area. Huxsie began her career as a jazz vocalist in 1973. During the next fourteen years she performed with many of the area’s premiere jazz ensembles and symphony orchestras. Huxsie was a featured opener for such jazz greats as the late Lionel Hampton and McCoy Tyner. She was the original vocalist for the Savannah Jazz Orchestra and worked for a number of years as the featured vocalist for jazz great and Savannah resident, bassist Ben Tucker.
In 1987 Huxsie came full circle and went back to her roots , singing Gospel and Inspirational music. She has recorded three full Gospel projects and is featured on several other recordings.
In 2004, Huxsie was inducted into the Savannah Tribune Gospel Hall Of Fame and was voted Best Female Contemporary Gospel Artist by the listeners of WSOK/Clear Channel Radio. And in 2005, she was inducted into the Coastal Jazz Association’s Hall of Fame.
Danielle Hicks launched her musical career in New York City after completing the conservatory program at the American Musical & Dramatic Academy on Broadway. She spent 10 years performing around the city, marketing, and promoting her music projects, including a 24-week, one woman, off-Broadway show at the Paramount Hotel.
While in NYC, she was the lead singer of an acoustic duo, North-South, and a full band that carried her name. Currently, Danielle is the lead singer of a partnership with Nate Saraceno called Danielle Hicks and the Eight Ohm Resistance based in Savannah.
The Ladies of the Blues series is sponsored by The Savannah Bee Company.
