Tybee for the Holidays to Offer Family-Friendly Fun to

Brighten the Holiday Season

 

tybee-holidaysExperience Tybee Island, Georgia in a whole new light! Tybee for the Holidays, a special celebration of the holiday season, will offer plenty of family-friendly fun on this vacation paradise located just 20 minutes east of historic Savannah.

 
Special activities planned from Thanksgiving Day through New Year’s Day make the holiday season an ideal time to visit Tybee Island. This classic Southern beach town will be decked out in Christmas lights and festival holiday decorations while hosting a number of events that attract visitors from near and far.
 
“For the fifth consecutive year, Tybee for the Holidays offers the perfect way for families to spend quality time together on the coast during the holiday season,” said Chantel R. Morton, Tybee Island Main Street Coordinator. “Every year, Tybee Island sparkles with holiday magic and beach town charm.”

 

Highlights for 2013 Tybee for the Holidays:

  • The Lights On for Tybee Celebration begins on Friday, December 6 at 6:30 p.m., when Mayor Jason Buelterman lights the Christmas tree downtown at the Tybrisa/Strand Roundabout . The evening will include a variety of live entertainment, extended store hours, refreshments and specials at locations throughout downtown Tybee Island. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will also make a special appearance.
 
·         The Tybee Island Christmas Parade kicks off Saturday, December 7 at 1 p.m., running from the 14th Street beachfront lot to the YMCA on 5th Street. Get into the holiday spirit at this old-fashioned Christmas parade.
 
  • Tybee Island will explode with New Year’s Eve Fireworks on Tuesday, December 31 to ring in 2014 at the stroke of midnight. Enjoy the fireworks display from the pier, the beach or anywhere on the east side of the island.  
 
  • The following morning, the annual Tybee Polar Plunge will offer the opportunity to jump into the Atlantic Ocean for a brisk and refreshing way to start the New Year. The morning of Wednesday, January 1, don your favorite costume and gather at the pier downtown for an invigorating dip.
 
Tybee for the Holidays is an annual series of special events jointly sponsored by the City of Tybee Island, Tybee Island Main Street Program and Tybee Island Tourism Council.
Southern Living recently honored Tybee Island as one of America’s “Perfect Little Beach Towns.” Parents magazine has included Tybee on its annual list of the “Best Beaches for Families” and Fodor’s has named the island one of the “Best Family Beaches on the East Coast.”

 
“Tybee Island is an ideal year-round beach destination,” said Keith Gay, president of the Tybee Island Tourism Council. “We offer beautiful sandy beaches, warm Southern hospitality and a wide range of activities.
