New Orleans may be celebrating Mardi Gras 2015 on February 17th, but we on Tybee Island will be having our own celebration this February 14th. Sure it won’t be as loud, wild, and frenzied as the celebrations in The Big Easy, but Tybee adds its own distinctive flavor to the gumbo of revelry!

Tybee Mardi Gras

The Street Party on Tybrisa begins around 12:00 pm on Saturday. The street will be closed down and the festivities will begin. The Christy Alan Band will get the party started at 12:30 so make sure you’ve got your dancing shoes on. There will be plenty of authentic Cajun Crawfish Gumbo and an ice cold brews at the food and drink tents to keep you going throughout the day. Many local businesses will be offering Mardi Gras specials so go ahead and start looking forward to sampling some creole styled delicacies!

This is a family friendly event! Tybee’s Mardi Gras Parade begins at 2pm and will start at Memorial Park and follow Butler Avenue to Tybrisa and then on to the Round-about. Children and adults will enjoy the colorful floats and characters making their way down Tybee’s main road.  Be sure to wear your best Mardi Gras Finery, because after the parade there will be a costume contest in which the winners will be crowned the Tybee Mardi Gras 2015 King and Queen! Don’t have anything at home for the celebration? Don’t worry! Many stores on Tybee like Seaside Sisters have everything you will need to deck yourself out in style.

The official party is supposed to end at 6pm but if you know anything about Tybee, you understand the REAL party will last way into the night in bars like Fannie’s at the Beach and Tybee Times. So get ready to don your purple, green, and gold and come celebrate Mardi Gras on Tybee Island, laissez les bons temps rouler!
