Tybee Polar Plunge

More than 2,000 swim-cap-clad participants crowded alongside the Tybee Island pier this morning to become part of an attempt to break a Guiness world book record.

The previous record was 546 people, so unofficially, Tybee had more than enough help on hand.
Setting a record wasn’t the real point, said Jim Kluttz, president of the board of Friends of Tybee Theater, which organized the event as a fundraiser.
“We wanted people to have fun at a family-friendly event,” he said. “That’s the key.”
