Top 4 Tips for Overseas Visitors to Tybee Island

Tybee Island attracts incredible numbers of visitors every year. Whilst the vast majority of these visitors are traveling from inside the domestic United States, we are also proud to receive a significant number of overseas visitors from all around the world. Tybee Island is considered to be an incredible island with perfect beaches ideal for fishing and enjoying outdoor pursuits: it’s no wonder it’s such a popular destination for visitors from both far and wide. If you’re traveling to Tybee Island, or even to the United States, for the very first time then here are a few top tips to help you ensure your trip runs smoothly and is as fun as possible:

Book Accommodation in Advance

Just as you would before any vacation, there are many practical considerations to bear in mind before you visit Tybee island. Firstly, because it is such a popular destination, particularly during the summer months, you are strongly advised to secure your accommodation before you arrive. Otherwise you may find that you are left disappointed when all of the hotels, B&B’s and vacation rental homes that you are looking at are fully booked. A good rule of thumb is to book your accommodation as soon as you decide to take a trip to Tybee Island as part of your vacation: this is particularly important if you have a particular hotel in mind for your stay.

Take Out Travel Insurance

If you are travelling from the European Union then it is worth noting that you will need to secure separate travel insurance for your trip to the United States, just in case you need medical attention whilst you are here. Whilst Europeans can receive free urgent medical attention when travelling within the European Union on presentation of their E111 health insurance card, this card is not valid outside of the European Union, which is why securing your own travel insurance is so important before you arrive in the country. It’s worth noting that medical treatment without insurance can be very expensive inside the United States.

Visit the Tybee Island Visitor Center

When you arrive in Tybee Island, be sure to take time out to visit the Tybee Island visitor center. Open 9-5.30, seven days a week, the Tybee Island visitor center is perfect for finding information on things to see and do in the area and is a font of important information on all the best things that are happening in Tybee Island during your stay. If you have specific things you want to do during your time on Tybee Island, such as take a fishing trip, a historical tour of the region, or a boat ride to spot the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins enjoying feeding time then you should book these in advance of your stay to avoid disappointment when you arrive: the visitor center can help you organise trips such as these remotely, making it as easy as possible to plan your dream trip to Tybee Island from the comfort of your own home.

Consider Renting a Car

If you want to travel around Savannah, the Georgia Coast, or simply see as much of Tybee Island as possible then it is strongly recommended that you rent a car for the duration of your stay. Whilst there are limited public transport options available, there is nothing quite like the freedom of being able to go where you want, when you want, and enjoy your vacation on your own schedule. For ease and convenience,  consider picking up a car at the airport when you arrive in the region, leaving you free to travel around at your own pace. If renting a car isn’t really your cup of tea there are plenty of golf cart rentals and taxis on the Island itself.

Tybee Island is a truly beautiful place to visit for a vacation, and you’ll find so much to see and do when you arrive. By preparing your trip in advance, you’ll find that the whole experience will run much more smoothly, leaving you free to unwind, relax, and have as much fun as possible!
