The Savannah Arts Academy presents an evening of piano music featuring performances by Dr. Geoff Haydon, director of piano studies at Georgia State University, Chris Chandler, director of piano studies at the Arts Academy; and Gary Swindell, a Savannah gospel artist.
Advanced piano students from the Arts Academy will also perform.
Haydon will perform selections from the George Gershwin Catalogue including: “S’ Wonderful, Stairway to Paradise and I Got Rhythm., as well as pieces by Billy Strayhorn, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock. Swindell will perform piano selections in the Gospel tradition.
Chandler, who is producing this program, featuring the Post Theater’s antique Steinway grand piano, says, “I use the term ‘Cannibals’ to describe both Geoff’s and My approach to playing the piano…Geoff attacks the piano with a verve and swagger that is not usually found in the local Savannah piano and music scene.
