SCAD Sand Arts Festival

The annual SCAD Sand Arts Festival showcases the sculptural talents of SCAD students, alumni and staff as they scramble to create temporary masterpieces in the Tybee Island sand. Presented by the SCAD School of Foundation Studies, this event features competitions in sandcastle design, sand sculpture, sand relief and wind sculpture.

Competition is limited to SCAD students, alumni and staff, but the public is invited to observe the creation of these works of art.

Registration is free and takes place the day of the event.

For more information, email foundation studies professor Matt Toole.

Is it better to see when they start at 10 or in the afternoon. Unfortunately have a 1:00 appt in Hilton Head and am not sure if it would be better to come before or after the appt.

Is this a one day only event? I’d love to bring my kids but they have school on Friday!

Hi Jesse, yes it is a one day event. Since it is held by the college they have to do it on a weekday. One cool thing is that they do not tear the sculptures down, they let the tide take them. So you could still bring the kids out after school to see the finished sculptures.
