Tybee Island debuts Craft Brew Battle at the Beach in July


download (10)New summertime festival features dozens of craft brews in competition for the title Best Georgia Craft Brew on the Tybee Pier and Pavilion, July 24. Grab a frosty mug and get ready! The Tybee Post Theater is staging its first annual Craft Brew Battle at the Beach this summer! Some 15 Georgia breweries will provide tastings of their top two craft brews in this year’s fun competition to crown the Best Georgia Craft Brew and Best Supporting Georgia Craft Brew!

10668758_10203352913892814_4066865166350593253_oEveryone who attends the event gets a ballot and taste tests the three dozen Georgia brews during this three-hour sunset festival on Tybee’s Pier and Pavilion. This fundraiser for the Tybee Post Theater also offers fresh-popped movie popcorn, games, restaurant discounts, and live music from Tybee’s own Lazaretto Creek Band, but the Georgia-borne brews take center stage. This inaugural event features some of the biggest names in local craft brews, from Moon River and Coastal Empire to Sweetwater and Southbound and lots more from Savannah, Atlanta and Athens, too.

“It’s a perfect summertime event on Tybee,” said Tybee Post Theater Executive Director Melissa Turner. “You’ll get to taste test dozens of craft beers in a fun sunset celebration under the pavilion on Tybee’s pier. Everyone gets a ballot and together will crown the Best Georgia Craft Beer and toast a great cause on Tybee.”

Ticket buyers will get a cool collectible 5 oz. tasting mug to sample everything from Second Self Red Hop Rye to Service Brewing’s Rally Point Pilsner, and, of course, Coastal Empire’s Tybee Island Blonde.The festival takes place Friday, July 24, from 5-8 pm. and should attract a lively crowd of end-of-season vacationers, as well as locals looking for a special way to start their late July weekend off right! There also will be discount coupons to nearby restaurants and bars, so participants can continue the fun into the weekend.

Tickets are $25 and available at Tickets at the door will be $30. All proceeds will go toward the restoration and reopening of the non-profit Tybee Post Theater, an historic 1930s movie house that will reopen as a performing arts and movie venue on Tybee later this year.

Savannah Distributing, Southern Eagle Distributing and United Distributors breweries are providing the beers.
