Tybee Arts Association Announces Theatrical Presentation
Local Actors Prepare for “Christmas Magi” Production
Tybee Island, GA, December 12, 2017– Tybee Arts Association is pleased to announce the dates of its upcoming production, aptly named “Christmas Magi”. Composed of two one-act plays, “Christmas Magi” combines several well-known stories into one evening of holiday magic. Woven into the old world charm of Patrick Rainville Dorn’s “Babushka’s Basket” (adapted from the Russian folk tale) is the turn-of-the-century allure of Anne Coulter Martens’ “The Gift of the Magi”, (adapted from a short story by O.Henry).
Tybee Arts Association is pleased to welcome Lorrie and Fritz Rumpel, longtime friends of the Tybee Arts community, who are in charge of the production. Together, Director Lorrie and Music Director Fritz, along with their cast and crew, weave a magical and memorable, family-friendly evening not soon to be forgotten.
The Rumpels ask, “What do the stories of a brokenhearted elderly woman in czarist Russia and a young and poor married couple living in early twenty-century New York City have in common? They remind everyone that the true spirit of Christmas can be found in each of us.” Indeed, “Christmas Magi” embodies the concept that wisdom, like the magi—the three wise men who gifted the holy child–is open to us all, if only we open our hearts and minds.
“Babushka’s Basket,” a Russian folk tale, tells the story of a bitter woman who is visited by one of the Wise men and learns how to mend her broken heart by giving and forgiving. “The Gift of the Magi,” based on the classic O. Henry short story, shows how two young people set aside their own vanity and desires, and are willing to sacrifice their most prized possessions in order to acquire meaningful holiday gifts for one another.
In this Christmas season, isn’t it wise to remind ourselves of what we’re really supposed to be celebrating? Let “Babushka” and “Magi” be a part of your Christmas celebration.
The schedule for “Christmas Magi” follows:

The curtain for evening show is 7:30 PM, and for Christmas Eve Matinee is 2:00 PM.
